I am not a believer in traditional New Year’s Resolutions. I tried them when I was a teenager, but I found things like “I will go to the gym every day” or something similar would get derailed as soon as I missed a day. I would try to convince myself that missing one day didn’t mean I failed, but in my heart I felt like if you say you are going every day, then you don’t go every day, you failed. From there it would happen more regularly until I was feeling like a huge failure.
I learned for me I need more of a year long to do list. Goals that I want to accomplish. If I don’t make it, well I have all next year to reach it, and will add in more goals along the way. I have been trying to declutter, so my goal each year is to get rid of 365 bags, boxes, or big things. I usually have a lot coming in, so am able to accomplish this goal fairly easily.
This year I am adding the book Cut The Clutter to my list of things to read. I will add in some of their tips and tricks. The idea for me is to create a new easy habit I can add in to my daily routine that I won’t feel like I failed at. Just add it in, and voila the house starts feeling like it is cleaning itself.
This is a guide to conquering clutter and cleaning your home from a leading housekeeping expert.
